A remarkable artcourt and surrounding installation at Green Square Public School in Sydney.

Created by artist Blak Douglas, The Belly of the Feast brings more than 300 dugongs to the court and surrounding spaces, transforming the artwork into an immersive environment for play, learning and discovery.

The work draws on historical records of dugong bones unearthed near this site in 1896. The design is based on the unexpected urban dugong and the radical thinking it brought about in understanding the Aboriginal presence in Sydney and Australia. It celebrates the enduring connection of Aboriginal peoples to this place.

A striking meeting of art, history and play, the project turns the school grounds into a space where students can experience the story of their place through movement and imagination.
